Dr. Roman Somogy is the owner and an optometrist at Sigma Eyehealth Centers, proudly serving Monticello, Anamosa, and Marion, Iowa. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, then earned his Doctor of Optometry degree cum laude from the Chicago College of Optometry at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. He graduated with clinical honors and received multiple awards recognizing excellence in low vision care, contact lens fitting, and patient management.
Dr. Somogy completed advanced clinical rotations at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago and a surgical co-management center, where he focused on complex medical cases including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and post-op care. He has special interest in pediatric exams, ocular disease, and specialty contact lens fitting.
Originally from rural Wisconsin, where he grew up on a pine tree farm, Dr. Somogy brings small-town values and a strong work ethic to his care. As a first-generation doctor, he’s committed to making modern, full-scope eye care more accessible in underserved communities.
Outside the clinic, he enjoys hands-on projects, sustainable living, and spending time with his wife Stefanie and their son, Maverick.
