Gary W. Fisher, OD has practiced in Eastern Iowa for over 40 years. Dr. Fisher received his undergraduate education at Arkansas State University and Upper Iowa University.  He received his Doctorate in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1976.  He completed postgraduate work at American Hospital in Chicago and St. Lukes Eye Institute in Tarpon Springs, Florida.  Dr. Fisher was on the faculty of the University of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines for four years.

Dr. Fisher practices full scope eyecare, with an emphasis on medical eyecare.  He has a special interest in glaucoma treatment, diagnosis and management of macular degeneration, and pre- and postoperative care for cataract and refractive surgery patients.

Dr. Fisher and his wife, Marcia, are the parents of two grown children, Nichole and Cory.


Dr. Allison Gruwell is the newest doctor to join the Sigma team. She is originally from Cedar Rapids and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School before moving to Cedar Falls where she completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Northern Iowa. Dr. Gruwell then decided to travel west to Forrest Grove, Oregon where she obtained her Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University’s College of Optometry.

Dr. Gruwell provides emergency services and full-scope medical eye care while ensuring that her patients obtain their best vision possible. She has special interests in ocular dermatology and aesthetics, dry eye management, post-surgical care, and specialty contact lenses. While in optometry school, Dr. Gruwell completed rotations in anterior segment surgical co-management with an emphasis on refractive surgery (such as LASIK/PRK), implantable collamer lenses and cataract surgery, dry eye management, and low vision care, as well as rotations in rural communities that focused on ocular disease management and primary care optometry. She is also certified to perform injections like Botox in addition to minor surgical removal of benign lesions around the eyes and orbit.

Outside of work, Dr. Gruwell stays busy by reading, finding new restaurants to try, spending time with friends and family, and taking care of her French Bulldog, Bogey. She now calls Marion home and enjoys being back in Iowa near her family and friends.
